Call for Papers: Graduate Conference

Critical Examinations of New Media and "Antisemitism" | NYU Center for the Study of Antisemitism’s Graduate Student Conference

Scholars of antisemitism have increasingly explored the connections between the emergence of new media and the diffusion of new antisemitic discourses and violent practices. This conference takes this insight as the starting point for a deeper reflection on how antisemitism manifests itself, and how Jews and their allies have fought it. With the emergence of numerous technological advancements and new means of social interaction, research methods and focuses must be adjusted. What does antisemitism look like through these new lenses and how should we as researchers and future innovators of the field of antisemitism studies confront it?

New media has generated a new virtual realm to both disseminate antisemitism and analyze it quantitatively and qualitatively. Giving consideration to historical contexts of antisemitism can provide an access point into its contemporary manifestations. We now face a new reality. Bots have the ability to take part in hate speech, extremism is normalized among online communities, and antisemitism is given a platform to flourish. How do we navigate and respond to antisemitism in this shifting landscape?

The Center for the Study of Antisemitism invites students from across disciplines to participate in the Critical Examinations of New Media and “Antisemitism” Conference on October 20, 2025. We are particularly interested in historical contexts of contemporary antisemitism, qualitative and quantitative research, case studies, antisemitism in the online gaming community, and responses to AI, however are open to many well-developed research projects. This conference will be held in person at NYU and is meant to provide students with an opportunity to present and workshop their research on antisemitism and media, gain new perspectives from various fields, and interact with peers studying antisemitism from around the world.
